| Preliminary registrations and a WIETE Workshop on Publishing in WIETE Journals - How to become a Published and Cited Author, Part 1 - How to write a Journal Article commenced the 6th Mediterranean Seminar on Engineering and Technology Education under a major theme Regional Collaboration on Monday, 10 September 2018. The Seminar was held at the University of West Attica (formerly known as Piraeus University of Applied Sciences) in Piraeus-Athens, Greece, between 10 and 14 September 2018. The Seminar was a collaborative venture of the World Institute for Engineering and Technology Education and its satellite centre at the University of West Attica, known as the Mediterranean Centre for Engineering and Technology Education (MCE&TE). Nearly 40 WIETE members, associates, sympathisers and accompanying persons registered for the Seminar with most attending.
The WIETE Workshop was instigated and facilitated by Mrs Dorota I. Pudlowski, WIETE Managing Director and Professor Zenon J. Pudlowski, WIETE Director, Melbourne, Australia. It consisted of two parts, the first being on how to write a journal article - initial steps, and the second part (conducted on Wednesday, 12 September 2018) was on reviewing the article’s outline, and the mechanism of citation impact. The workshop has been prepared in a flexible manner. It could take two half days to run it, as was done in Athens or it could be reduced to a one-hour presentation, depending on the level of engagement of participants. The citation mechanism seemed particularly popular, as most questions and comments regarded this part of the Workshop. The Opening Ceremony was held on Tuesday, 11 September 2018, the second day of the Seminar, with the Seminar General Chairman, WIETE Director, Professor Zenon J. Pudlowski presiding. The Seminar was officially opened by Professor Robert Špaček of Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia; President of the WIETE International Academic Advisory Committee (WIETE-IAAC). Also, a welcome address was presented by Professor Sabina Kuc of the Faculty of Architecture at Cracow University of Technology, Kraków, Poland, a Vice-President of the WIETE-IAAC. Four interesting opening addresses were presented by senior international academics, starting with Dr Eleni Korka, General Director of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Hellenic Republic. Her address was entitled Ancient paint and its techniques in Tenea, Korinthia. Associate Professor Stanislav Avsec, Head, Department of Physics and Technology, Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia, presented an address on Self-directed learning of engineering design by pre-service teachers using innovative ICT-based approaches. Professr Grażyna Schneider-Skalska, Vice-Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Cracow University of Technology, Kraków, Poland, delivered an address entitled Interdisciplinary education of architects on a global and local scale. The final address was given by Professor Pierre E. Hertzog, Central University of Technology, Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa, with the title The use of live streaming in design-based modules for open distance learning.        |
