During the last day of the International Conference on New Building Technologies and Architectural Design - NBTAD 2016, the WIETE Director, Professor Zenon J. Pudlowski, was presented with a recent book entitled Educating Buildings – Learning Sustainability through Displayed Design by its author Dr Peter Kuczia.

Dr P. Kuczia, an international architect and academic, is an expert in ecological and solar constructions with more than 20 years of experience, working mostly in Germany and Poland. His architectural work covers a wide range of building types, and he has been awarded over 30 international prizes and distinctions, has been exhibited in 12 countries and has been published in over 40 books and 80 professional journals around the world. He has been teaching as a guest lecturer at Cracow University of Technology, Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Wrocław University of Technology, and the WST University of Science and Art in Katowice (Poland), as well as at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and the California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California (USA).

Educating Buildings – Learning Sustainability through Displayed Design is a handbook for architects, planners, clients and occupants written in German and English, with the two texts being presented side-by-side with numerous illustrations that provide visualisation of the matter under consideration. The contents are subdivided into over forty compact chapters in which contemporary building technology and practical applications are dealt with in a precise and highly methodological structure. The main purpose of the handbook is to educate the reader in matters pertaining to sustainability and environmental protection, when it comes to modern developments, and to advise how to expose these matters in the buildings.

The book should be recommended to all engineering professionals as a compendium of information on new building technologies, as well as methods and approaches to education in this area of professional endeavour.

The book was published in Germany in 2013 by Verein für Ökologie und Umweltbildung Osnabrück e. V., Osnabrück, Germany, with ISBN 978-3-932378-06-5.
