| A  function was held at the WIETE Office on Saturday, 16 May 2015, to farewell Dr Elena Alexandrovna Danilova on her departure from Melbourne to take up  the position of Manager, Scholarly Publishing in the library at  the University of Queensland (UQ) in Brisbane. Educated  in Tomsk, Western Siberia, Russia, Elena came to the then  UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (UICEE) at Monash  University, Melbourne, Australia, in June 2006, to undertake doctoral studies  by research, and  enrolled through the Monash Asia Institute (MAI). She  received her PhD on 15 April 2010, and her doctoral dissertation was entitled Important issues in the development of a  curriculum for English and communication studies in engineering and technology  courses to improve communication skills of students in developing countries.  Apart from her studies, Elena worked at the UICEE  as a project officer until the closure of the Centre in January 2009. The World  Institute for Engineering and Technology Education (WIETE) was established in March  2009, and she was supportive in the early stages of WIETE’s foundation by contributing to publishing two international journals, and  held the position of associate editor until the end of 2011. Concurrently, she  was working in the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Performance) at  Monash University, processing research publications, which she continued to do until  recently.  Dr  Danilova will take up her new post on 25 May 2015. The position is a new role within the scholarly communication and digitisation  services at the UQ Library. She will contribute to the scholarly publishing  service, and will be able to lead new initiatives within this broad area, and  create new opportunities for the UQ Library.
