The 9th WIETE Annual Conference on Engineering and Technology Education, under the central theme Effective Methods in Engineering and Technology Educationwas inaugurated at Cinnamon Residence in Bangkok, Thailand, with preliminary registrations on 19 February and continuing until 23 February 2018.

Close to forty WIETE members, associates and sympathisers registered at the Conference with most of them attending. In line with tradition, the Opening Ceremony was held on the second day of the Conference that is on Tuesday, 20 February 2018, with the WIETE Director, Professor Zenon J. Pudlowski presiding. Professor Andrew Nafalski of the University of South Australia, Adelaide, Australia and President of the WIETE-IAAC officially opened the Conference. Then, Professor Adinarayana Kalanidhi, Vice-Chairman of the Commonwealth Science and Technology Academy for Research (C-STAR), Chennai, India, and the Immediate Past-President of WIETE-IAAC, presented a welcoming address.

Four opening addresses were presented during the Opening Ceremony with Professor A. Nafalski chairing the presentation session. The addresses were given by Associate Professor Maurice M. Danaher of Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Professor Adinarayana Kalanidhi, Vice-Chairman of C-STAR, Chennai, India; Dr Magdalena Celadyn, Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, Kraków, Poland; and Professor Ľubica Vitková, Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Bratislava, Slovakia.
