At the Conference Banquet, held on Wednesday, 21 February 2018, five Conference participants received WIETE occasional awards from Professor Zenon J. Pudlowski, WIETE Director for their outstanding contributions to engineering and technology education and, in particular, for delivering an outstanding address.

The recipients were the presenters of the opening addresses delivered at the Conference Opening Ceremony. The awardees were: Associate Professor Maurice M. Danaher of Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (Are students in graduate programmes adequately attaining professional skills?); Professor Adinarayana Kalanidhi, Vice-President, Commonwealth Science and Technology Academy for Research (C-STAR), Chennai, India (Engineering education needs drastic change in the curriculum and beyond curriculum); Dr Magdalena Celadyn, Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, Kraków, Poland (Environmental sustainability considerations in an interior design curriculum ); and Professor Ľubica Vitková, Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Bratislava, Slovakia (Global urban planning as a part of architectural education in the Faculty of Architecture at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava).

The citation attached to the sterling silver coin featuring the dog read: Celebrating the 9th WIETE Annual Conference on Engineering & Technology Education in the Year of the Dog, this WIETE gift is presented in recognition of your achievements in engineering and technology education.

A special award was presented to Professor Sabina Kuc of the Faculty of Architecture at Cracow University of Technology, Kraków, Poland, for her outstanding achievements in engineering and architecture education and, in particular, for the considerable support she has provided to the activities, achievements and success of the operation of the WIETE.
