The hosts of the 2021 Conference on Engineering and Architecture Design Education (EADE-2021), initially planned to have it conducted on campus in the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (FAD-STU), Slovakia (the Conference Sponsor). However, this time again due to the pandemic-related restrictions, they had to resort to the Internet to enable paper presentations and scholarly deliberations. The Co-sponsors of this Conference included: the Faculty of Architecture at Cracow University of Technology (FA-CUT), Kraków, Poland; the Faculty of Architecture, Gdańsk University of Technology (FA-GUT), Gdańsk, Poland; the Faculty of Architecture at Wrocław University of Science and Technology (FA-WUST), Wrocław, Poland; and the World Institute for Engineering and Technology Education (WIETE), Melbourne, Australia.

Professor Pavel Gregor, Dean of the FAD-STU, chaired the Conference Opening Ceremony, introducing the Conference proceedings and representatives of the collaborating institutions to present their welcome addresses. The paper sessions included 13 interesting and stimulating presentations by academics from four countries: Canada, Slovenia, Poland and Slovakia. Most of the presented papers have already been published by the WIETE, and the remining few, already selected for publication, will soon be issued by the WIETE - subject, of course, to positive referees’ reviews.

In his closing remarks, Professor Robert Špaček of the FAD-STU; and President of the WIETE International Academic Advisory Committee (WIETE-IAAC), pointed out the learnings from the Conference and shared his impressions: despite of objective problems we are able to share our new experiences - which is most important. I note with satisfaction that Gdańsk University of Technology took a great step in setting up …a centre of innovative education, thereby opening up to new scenarios of education. I also think that our experiences gathered under the pressure of COVID, will survive in normal circumstances and the integration of e-learning and presence learning might offer even higher quality results. We will have to deal with new terms, methods and approaches, and absorb them into our practice, including: blended learning, mixed learning, hybrid learning …they will enhance the traditional teaching and learning methodology, and yield better outcomes.

The WIETE team wish to thank Associate Professor Ľubica Ilkovičová of the FAD-STU, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, for her wonderful job in arranging the Conference.
